Scans of Caving Related Postcards

These images come from sepia toned postcards published approximately between 1910-1920 by an unknown photographer. All of this series of postcards are from caves in the South-West of Western Australia.
The postcards were supplied for scanning courtesy of Mike Kouwen ph (618) 9384 4981 (h) 9327 0770 (w). Mike is keen to acquire additional cards or details to assist in his research.
Postcards have significant historical and collector interest and value. So please dispose/sell them thoughtfully if they are not required.

Vandalism Calgardup Cave
Click on the picture for a 83Kb JPG photo of what WAS one of the most beautiful displays of crystal encrusted straws anywhere! This area is totally devistated - not one straw remains. Anguish and wringing of hands :-( Stop Press!! This photo has been found on a 1903 publication!! clearly it was taken in 1903 or before.

Click on the picture for a 67Kb JPG photo from Mammoth Cave (??) of what is called locally a "karri forest" formation. This is because the flowstone somewhat resembles the tops of the local, and unique, karri trees.

Click on the picture for a 45Kb JPG photo from Lake Cave of what is called locally the "Suspended Table". This unusual formation was formed when two columns formed a flowstone at their base which joined. This flowstone formed on a bed of sand that has been washed away by the "lake" (slow moving stream) in the cave. This leaves the "table" suspended above the "lake" below.
